Well, anyone else watch the CSI: NY premiere on Wednesday? If so, what were your thoughts?

I liked the show. Didn't think it was "great", but it had a solid look and cast that leads me to believe they definitely have something decent to build on. In fact, compared to the cast of CSI: Miami I already like the NY cast better. They just seem to have more variety and character. And I really like the washed out/steel blue look they are using with the film; gives the show a very unique visual identity, not just from the other CSI's but from any other show on right now.

The one thing that bothered me is that the plot of the episode was a COMPLETE rip-off of author Mark Billingham's book Sleepyhead, which was released back in 2001. Here's the plot of Sleepyhead:

"Alison Willetts is unlucky to be alive. She has survived a stroke, deliberately induced by a skillful manipulation of pressure points on the head and neck. She can see, hear and feel; she is aware of everything going on around her, but she is completely unable to move or communicate. It's called Locked-In Syndrome. In leaving Alison Willetts alive, the police believe the killer's made his first mistake. Then D.I. Tom Thorne discovers the horrifying truth; it isn't Alison who is the mistake, it's the three women already dead."

Even the killer in the book's "reason" for why he is doing it was the same one CSI:NY used; he thinks he's freeing them of all earthly constraints and giving them the ultimate cerebral freedom to just "be". There is just NO WAY it was a coincidence. I sure hope Billingham got credit (didn't watch the credits) or compensation. BTW, he's a great author and I highly recommend his books! Didn't watch it, but Monday's CSI: Miami premiere was very good and sad.

But Wednesday, I watched Rescue me instead of NY.

CSI:Miami just seems like a crap-ish idea, but the NY one was good! It's kind of funny that it's pretty much exactly based on a book, I actually thought that sort of while watching it

Truthfully, it was my least favorite of the 3 CSI premieres this week.... although I'm sure it will get better.
